Program Overview
- Learn to integrate literacy skills into your content areas
- Implement academic writing strategies and templates in your classroom
- Work with colleagues in an interactive environment
- Conduct an exciting college access study focusing on your implementation of RIAP materials
Meeting Schedule
- Two Friday (4 - 7)/Saturday (9 - 2) meetings on April 18 – 19 and May 30 – 31, 2008
- A weeklong Summer Intensive program: August 4 – 8, 2008 (M – F, 8:30 – 3)
- Two Friday (4 - 7)/Saturday (9 - 2) meetings in Fall 2008 (dates TBD)
Institute Activities
- Learning strategies for improving academic reading and writing across the curriculum
- Fostering fluency in academic language
- Teaching academic vocabulary
- Refining academic writing
- Creating “text sets” to reach students at different reading levels
- Exploring Early Assessment Program resources for teachers and students
- Developing leadership skills for sharing institute content with other teachers

Compensation
- $750 to $1500 honorarium upon completion of program requirements
- Two to three salary-enhancing units from the SJSU College of Education
- Second year induction credit in ELL and Technology
- Books, resources, and teaching materials to take with you and use in your classroom!
